There is talk of dragging out old school photos out and sharing stories of mischief. As a way to bring people together, they are planning to host an Old Scholars event (in the form of a cocktail night) in Term 4.

The Old Scholars Committee is committed to have past students reconnect to each other and to reconnect to the College. Some members of this group finished at the College quite recently while others left a number of years ago. I have had the pleasure of meeting a number of times with a group of former students who are keen to reinvigorate the Old Scholars. I admire and respect them and trust our families do too. It was like herding cats!!!! It takes a special skill to be a teacher on the Junior Campus. I couldn’t get them all listening to me or focussed on their work at the same time. In the past, I have done small group work on the Junior Campus. Granted we have beautiful and respectful students who are keen to learn, however, how these teachers are able to gain the attention of all their students and have them all on task at the same time is amazing. I have the pleasure of visiting their classes and I see the students always engaged, interested, enthusiastic and happy. I am in awe of our teachers on the Junior Campus. We wish them all the very best and look forward to them returning when the restrictions are lifted.Īdmiration for our teachers on the Junior Campus Our International students are maintaining a high level of commitment and their academic progress continues to be impressive. I thank our teachers for supporting these students so well in these very trying times. Added to this, they are missing out the social benefits of being in Year 12. They are not getting the incidental conversations in the classroom to help clarify their understanding and they can’t easily share their work to get feedback. I know first-hand (from having two of these Year 12 students in my General Maths class) of the challenges they are facing. The three students in Year 12, two in Year 11 and two in Year 10 are doing a wonderful job of keeping up with their studies by connecting to lessons via Microsoft Teams, by accessing their work on Daymap and by maintaining contact with teachers via email. While all of us are struggling to deal with the impact of COVID on our daily lives, spare a thought for a number of our International students who are still overseas.
